Clouds Are Green

Sustainability is increasingly being seen as a core strategic priority for business. A recent study commissioned by the Carbon Disclosure Project has confirmed that company executives are viewing cloud computing as a way to transition to a lower carbon business model while increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations.

The report used two examples to highlight the level of savings that could be made using cloud computing:

  • Moving your HR operation to the private cloud could save $5 million over 5 years and cut CO2 emissions by 25,000 metric tons which is equivalent to taking 4,900 cars off the road for a year*
  • Moving your HR operation to the public cloud could save $12 million over 5 years and cut CO2 emissions by 30,000 metric tons which is equivalent to taking 5,900 cars off the road for a year*.

So it seems that moving to the cloud could be good for the environment as well as the business.
