About the Service Provider
Innovise ESM Training collaborated with a major Service Provider (SP) to develop and deliver a bespoke CiscoWorks training programme to sixty network operations and support staff across several teams responsible for the various SP internal networks.
The Brief
The brief was to develop and deliver training to network teams with differing requirements Each network team perform different job functions and therefore each team presented separate training requirements.
The Approach
A detailed Training Needs Analysis (TNA) was undertaken to help identify the precise areas where training was required. As well as identifying SP's training requirements, this had the added benefit of ensuring that training and development initiatives were aligned with SP's organisational goals, culture and network infrastructure. This created a customised training solution that enabled SP to better utilise their training budgets by identifying the specific training requirements of their staff.
The Solution
Having identified these specific requirements, a customised modular course schedule was developed and agreed with SP at project meetings and reviews. The material and associated labs were then developed to reflect the specific topics identified in the TNA.
A major aspect of the Innovise ESM Training's methodology is to develop comprehensive lab exercises to both reinforce student learning and reflect the customer environment as much as possible. This was stressed by SP as one of the key factors in the training delivery. As a result of this feedback Innovise ESM Training developed both detailed scripted lab exercises and designed the lab environments to reflect the SP network. The final phase prior to delivery was a pilot to fine tune the content.
The first phase of training was delivered in September 2004, feedback on the best aspects of the course being:
- Scripted lab exercises
- Hands-on real lab network
- Explanation of tasks
- Tailored to SP's requirements and run in-house
- Well presented with good course material
